My Facebook Marketplace Account Was Restored After a Year

Facebook account reinstated

History and Timeline

I was one of the early users of Facebook back in 2004.

In early 2025, my Facebook Marketplace account was shut down with no explanation.

In late 2025, my Facebook ArulJohn.com business page was deactivated for a few days with no explanation. They automatically reinstated it.

In early 2026, my main Facebook account was deactivated by their AI, and restored two days later with an apology message that their AI wrongly shut me down.

In August 2026, my Facebook Marketplace account was restored.

I didn't actively do anything to get it reinstated (or banned, in the first place). Honestly, I'm still a little confused. 🤔

Facebook Markplace restored My Facebook Markplace was finally restored after more than a year

My Facebook Marketplace account was shut down in early 2025

In early 2025, I logged in to Facebook and was shown a message that my Facebook Marketplace account was shut down. There was no reason given.

At that time, I had barely used Facebook Marketplace for 6 months. What I had listed in those 6 months were a book and a couple of aquatic plants. That's it. No banned stuff. No live animals, no ammo, no weapons, no chemicals, nothing except a Number Systems textbook for elementary children and Java moss for the aquarium.

It was very annoying because Facebook gave no reason at all and shut me down just like that.

I unsuccessfully tried to have Facebook review my case

The only thing Facebook allowed me to do to restore my Marketplace account was click on a Review button.

After I clicked on the Review button, it was immediately rejected by Facebook Meta AI with a link to a webpage with a couple of dozen possible reasons why my Marketplace account was shut down. None of it was helpful. 🤷‍♂

Facebook AI sucks! There was no way to contact a human or email or make a phone call. Just an accusation made by Facebook Meta AI. Where are the humans gone?

Facebook groups have a lot of scammers and misinformation

There are a few Facebook groups where people talk about reinstating their Marketplace accounts. Most of the information there was unhelpful. In addition, there are tons of scammers promising to get Facebook to restore your Marketplace account in exchange of money. They actively solicit people and ask them to hand over their account details. This is laughable, but many have fallen to these scammers' tricks.

I reported a few of these scammers, but funnily, Facebook didn't do anything to the scammers and they are still out there finding victims.

Craigslist became my default for selling items

I moved to Craigslist to sell the same items that I was selling on Facebook Marketplace. I missed Craigslist and its minimalist design.

The important thing is to meet in a very public place or near a government building like a library or a police station, whether it's Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

Facebook temporarily deactivated my ArulJohn.com business page

In Fall of 2025, I suddenly received a warning by Facebook on my ArulJohn business page. This warning was not to "spread misinformation" about a post I had made in 2022. This science post was about the longest walkable road on earth.

A few days later, Facebook deactivated my business page. There was no reason given. A few days later, they automatically reactivated it with a message saying they found nothing wrong with it.

Facebook temporarily deactivated my main account

In Spring of 2026, Facebook suddenly deactivated my account. I was not able to login at all. No reason stated, nothing at all. I did not have access to any of the photos and videos I uploaded to share with family and friends. That really pissed me off. I did take backups a few years ago, though, just in case something like this were to happen.

And then, overnight, Facebook restored my account with an apology message saying that their Meta AI made an error leading to my business page deactivation.

I tried to reinstate my Facebook Marketplace account

After Facebook admitted their AI error on my main account, I thought I'll try to reinstate my Marketplace account. I went to Marketplace and clicked on Review. I got the same response -- their AI instantly rejected my review request.

I gave up trying to get my Marketplace account back.

My Facebook Marketplace account was restored

Towards the last week of August 2026, I suddenly got a notification that Facebook restored my Marketplace account! No reason given. No apology. Nothing at all. I just got a regular notification. I verified and yes, I was able to see other people's listings, and posted one of my own.

I will keep using Craigslist for online selling and buying

I still continue to use Craigslist for my default online selling. While I am not very active in Facebook for the reason it was created, I do not want their buggy AI to keep playing with the content I posted there over the years.

Facebook is useless for traffic or business

I also do not see any traffic from my Facebook business page to my website. There really is nothing much left in Facebook except family friends that I would like to keep in contact with.

Maybe I would like to follow the news every now and then, and watch a few videos, minus the wheezing background laughter soundtracks.

Facebook / Meta AI does not do what it's expected to do

I looked around Facebook and noticed that it is rife with hate and polarizing posts and comments. There is a surge in hate comments across the board. I thought Meta was supposed to take care of these, but I was wrong. Whatever happened to the human moderator teams?

In Facebook Marketplace, people are actively selling live animals and other things in the banned list.

How do you reinstate your deactivated Facebook account?

If you have used Facebook for something illegal and have had your account banned, you're really out of luck. For everyone else who thinks that Facebook has mistakenly disabled your account, read on.

If your Facebook account or Facebook Marketplace account has been disabled or deactivated, these are steps that you can take to recover your account:

  • Log in to Facebook within a month and click on the Request Review button.
  • Fill out the form and cross your fingers.
  • Repeat this process every month. There is no guarantee, but chances are it will be rectified at some point.

If asked for your identification, you may need to do the following:

  • Upload your drivers license. They may also ask you for your passport -- just don't give them that.
  • Take a selfie photo or video.

If Facebook does not accept your review request try again after a week.

I clicked on the review button every few months, but not at predetermined intervals. My account was restored randomly, just like how it was suspended. Both times, no reason given.

Change your Facebook password

If you suspect that your account has been compromised, change your Facebook account immediately. Enable 2FA if you have not done it yet.

Back up your acount posts with photos and videos

If your account is active, now is the time to back up your posts. These will include photos and videos that you've posted.

  • Go to Account settings → **
  • Click on Your information and permissions
  • Click on Export your information
  • Follow instructions on how to download your posts, images and videos
